The story

Built in 1852. Hosted personally.

The piazza, the haint-blue ceiling, the chalkboard inside the front door that the previous owners wrote and we left. The bones are spectacular. The fig tree out front is real, and gave the house its name.

Cannonborough-Elliotborough is the only neighborhood in downtown Charleston where you can legally rent a private home short-term. Most of the food worth flying for is within a ten-minute walk. You can park when you arrive and not move the car until you leave.

The Living Room

The 1852 fireplace, a slipcovered cream sofa, a brass lamp, the chalkboard inside the front door that the previous owners wrote and we left.

The Kitchen + Hallway

Full kitchen — stainless appliances, dishwasher, drip and French press on the counter, coffee and filters and the small things you forget to pack. The hallway runs heart pine end to end, kitchen at one end and the front door at the other.

The Master Bedroom

King bed, gray tufted headboard, teal velvet bench at the foot. Leaning floor mirror, sliding barn door to the bath. Heart pine floors. A ceiling fan that does the work of an air conditioner most of the year.
